My 2024 Fall Home Fragrance Picks

I love being in my house—it's why I never leave it. Well, one of the many reasons. But one thing I really love is a house that smells amazing. I want my home to feel comfortable and luxurious, so I take my home scents and fragrances seriously. I mostly use candles and room sprays. Diffusers haven’t really worked for me; they just seem to add unnecessary clutter. And of course, all of this goes hand in hand with a clean space. Seriously, babe, if you don’t clean your shit, no room spray or fragrance will save you. So, get out your cleaning supplies, drop to your knees, and scrub.

With that said, here are my absolute favorite fall scents for the home this year. Oh and if you are looking for fragrance recommendations, check out my picks.

A metal tin candle labeled "The Dropout" by The New Savant. The label describes the scent as a blend of golden saffron, hemp leaves, sueded leather, and smoked vanilla. The candle is handmade in Brooklyn, NY, and is a scented soy blend weighing 7 oz (200g). The label also highlights the sensory experience, describing it as warm, woody, and intimate.

The Dropout Candle // The New Savant

I love The New Savant; what can I say, I’m a millennial susceptible to certain types of marketing. Founded by Ingrid Nilsen (the originator of Vlogmas) and Erica Anderson, the brand focuses on creating small batch candles with transparent processes. They are all made in the Brooklyn studio using soy blend waxes. The Dropout candle has notes of saffron, cardamom, rhubarb, hemp leaves, leather, iris, patchouli, and smoked vanilla. It’s warm and familiar, very comforting. I find it to be rather complex in a good way; it changes throughout burning, so at times there’s a very sweet, smoky vanilla coming through, and then in other moments, I smell the patchouli and leather more strongly. I will say that overall the projection is pretty strong and fills a room nicely. I am part of their affiliate program, if you’d like 10% off your order my code is SFMVQM4Q.

Two black, minimalist products from Hyde & Park Co. are displayed. On the left is a candle labeled "Honey & Tonka," housed in a black jar with a matching lid. On the right is a black spray bottle labeled "Forrest," intended as a room and linen spray. Both products have white text detailing the brand and product information.

Honey & Tonka Candle & Forest Room Spray // Hyde & Park Co.

Founded in 2019 in Chicago, Hyde & Park Co. offers modern scents. I love a smooth and sweet scent for fall, but not in a fluffy vanilla kind of way, which is why I love the Honey & Tonka candle. There are notes of amber, oud, tobacco leaves, and coriander. It’s got a really good burn time and even better projection power. I really appreciate how earthy the Forest room spray is. It’s got notes of sage, grapefruit, lavender, oakmoss, amber, and tonka bean. While there are certainly quite a few grounding notes, I think the addition of the citrus keeps things fresh and modern. It’s earthy but not heavy, which I really enjoy.

A brown glass jar candle labeled "Teakwood & Tobacco" from P.F. Candle Co., featuring a metal screw-on lid. Next to the candle is a set of incense sticks packaged in a kraft paper box, also from P.F. Candle Co. The packaging has a minimalist, rustic design with printed text detailing the product's scent and ingredients.

Teakwood & Tobacco Candle & Patchouli Sweetgrass // P.F. Candle Co.

Tobacco scents are one of my favorites; they strike a balance between spicy and sweet that I find special. This candle from P.F. Candle Co. is one of the most well-done tobacco candles out there. Its projection is insane, like it really takes up a space. There are some orange and black tea notes in here that keep things interesting. This scent also comes in a few other variations, like a room spray and incense. If you are looking for something a bit more green, perhaps to transition you out of summer, Patchouli Sweetgrass is the way to go. All candles feature soy wax and are paraben-free and phthalate-free.

Two amber-colored glass bottles with black spray nozzles, each accompanied by a matching box. The bottle on the left is labeled "Dark Cassis," featuring notes of ripe blackberries, musk, and cassis. The bottle on the right is labeled "Woodland Haze," featuring notes of artemisia, cedarwood, and moss. Both are fragrant room sprays by the brand "KOBO."

Dark Cassis Room Spray & Woodland Haze Room Spray // Kobo

If you are looking for something a bit nontraditional for the fall months, I can recommend Dark Cassis by Kobo. It’s more fruity, with notes of blackberry, musk, and patchouli. It strikes an interesting balance between earthy and fruity that keeps things modern. For months when fall transitions to winter, I recommend Woodland Haze with its notes of nutmeg and anise. This is a perfect broody and moody scent. Kobo’s projection is pretty nice; it lingers in a room for a couple of hours.

Two candles in pastel-colored glass holders, each with a unique abstract design and the brand name "OTHERLAND" displayed on the front. The candle on the left has a white holder, and the one on the right has a peach-toned holder.

Chandelier Candle & Cardamom Milk Candle // Otherland

Chandelier is perhaps the most femme candle out there. It’s luxe, sweet, and incredibly intriguing. With notes of champagne, saffron, and leather, there’s a duality to this candle. To me, it is overwhelmingly champagney, but as it tapers, I do smell more leather notes. I also really adore the sweet, creamy notes in the Cardamom Milk scent. It’s warm and familiar; it feels like a cozy afternoon on a rainy day in the woods. Both are very different scents for very different occasions, however equally lovely. Both have a good burn time of up to 55 hours.

A white candle in a clear glass holder with vertical stripes and the brand name "NEST New York" printed at the bottom.

Rose Noir & Oud // Nest

I’m not the biggest floral girl, but I do enjoy it on occasion, and if you are looking for a fall floral scent, this would be ideal. With notes of Rose de Mai, oud, and leather, there’s a warmth to this candle. It’s hot, like hot hot, very sultry. It’s got layers to it; it starts with a strong rose scent, but as it burns, the leather and oud notes take over. Like most other Nest candles, this one projects well.
